Using a pasta pan makes cooking pasta a lot easier than using a normal pan. But you first need to have a good understanding of how a pasta pan works. That’s why we tell you exactly how best to use a pasta pan.
How to use a pasta pan
A pasta pan consists of two parts, the pan and the insert. The insert is a kind of colander where you can drain the pasta. Once the pasta is done, you lift the insert out of the pan, let the water flow back into the pan and the pasta is ready to be added to the sauce. Other than that, the pasta pan works the same as a normal pan.
In short, the operation of a pasta pan is almost the same as a normal pan. But there are a few things that make a pasta pan convenient and safer than a normal pan. We will go into that in more detail below.
What is a pasta pan?
Using a pasta pan has a number of advantages. You’re faster with it and draining becomes a lot safer. Of course, you then have to use the pan as it is intended. A pasta pan is mainly used for cooking pasta. Sounds logical, but you can’t cook many other things with it.
A pasta pan consists of two parts, the pan and the insert. The insert is a kind of colander that sits in the pan while cooking. Once the pasta is cooked, simply lift the inset and the water flows out at the bottom.
Cooking with a pasta pan is how you do it
Once you have purchased a nice pasta pan you can cook with it endlessly. In our opinion, it is really worth the investment because cooking pasta becomes a lot easier. Not only easier, but also safer!
Cooking pasta with a pasta pan is done in the following steps:
Step #1
Fill the pasta pan for 75% with water. Preferably warm water because this will reduce the time it takes for the water to boil.
Step #2
Bring the water to a boil and add a small amount of salt to the boiling water.
Step #3
Add the pasta to the boiling water and cook until tender. (al dente)
Step #4
Once the pasta is cooked you can start to drain it. At this point you are going to notice the biggest difference between a regular pan and a pasta pan. The big advantage of a pasta pan is in the speed of draining. Lift up the insert and slowly drain the water at the bottom of the insert. Of course, do this above the pan so that all the boiling water falls back into the pan.
Step #5
After all the water has drained from the insert, you can add the pasta directly into the pan with sauce. Done!
A pasta pan is safer than a normal one
In our opinion, a pasta pan is safer than a normal pan. This is mainly due to the fact that you don’t have to walk around with a pan of boiling water when you want to drain the pasta. In fact, you can simply leave the pan on the gas and pull up the insert. A lot safer if you ask us.
Different heat sources
A pasta pan, like most pans, can be used on most heat sources. After all, it is simply a pan made of stainless steel. No more no less. But before you buy a pasta pan, always check whether the pan can actually be used on the heat source you use.
It would be a shame if you buy a beautiful pasta pan that does not work well.
